I've been sleeping on the futon each night for about a week now, and today I really never got off of it. Why didn’t I leave the couch today? Well, first of all, I've been physically active all week and I'm tired. Secondly, for the first time since early December, I finally have cable again, not to mention a TV larger than 13 inches.
That’s right, this weekend, we finally re-acquired my roommate’s TV from the girl who had been using it, and the best news: it fits perfectly within the hole in my entertainment center.
But this came at a cost. You see, my roommate is shorter than me. So when we teamed up to carry this TV out of one building, across the street and into our building, I was definitely hunched over and probably carrying it with my back.
And I’m blaming a stiff back today on that, instead of the fact that I sleep on a futon each night.
The TV wasn’t the only thing that arrived Saturday, as mom, dad, and the two foreigners, Mi Rin and Pond, also stopped by for a visit. With them was a lamp for the living room, a cable for the TV, and a few other small items I had forgotten to bring with me here. (Including gum… thank goodness because I, the addict, was running dangerously low in my supply.)
Along with this, mom packed a small Singles Awareness Day present for me: Sweet tarts and chocolate chip cookies… she knows me too well. But more awkwardly, she brought down the aforementioned package she had opened for me, despite me telling her she could just go ahead and dispose of it. I get the feeling that she thinks I sent away for this package, and it’s really creeping me out. But on to topics that don’t make me feel nauseated.
Friday night was spent at Zach’s house, watching LeBron James absolutely tear apart the Bucks, draining three after three for the first two minutes of the third period. In a house full of Bucks fans, the entire room was on its feet for James during the stint. Unbelievable performance.
Afterwards, Zach popped in “R-Kelly’s Trapped in a closet” for us to watch, and Pat, who also lives in that house, discussed starting a intramurals softball team with Blake Hoffarber batting cleanup, as Blake had dominated TC Bear at the Metrodome in a pre-game home run derby last season. Hoffarber didn’t say no, so who knows, it may just happen… I call first base. All in all, it was a true Zach-like night.
After conditioning on Saturday, I played basketball again with several guys from the team. I don’t get to play much ball here, so I jump at every opportunity to play. There are some decent players on the baseball team, and I think if we tried to make a basketball roster with the talent provided, we’d do ok. Maybe I’ll bring it up for fall intramurals.
More interesting story: I went out with some of the guys on the team to a house party. There were quite a few of us, so we car-pooled. Once again, I knew the baseball guys and had spoken once or twice with a handful of others, but overall it was a house full of strangers, yet fun in its own right.
As I was driving home, this exchange happened. Sam Weber (a pitcher): “Can we stop and get something to eat? I’m like a Keebler Elf, I need some snacks.”
Shea (a lanky first baseman): “Sam, you’re not like an elf, you’re like six elves.”
As my season does officially start on Saturday night, I’m taking this opportunity to knock the blog down to a bi-weekly occurrence… probably Sunday’s and Thursdays. In each one, I will try to have a few different features that people seem to have enjoyed, and if I have one really off-the-wall day, I’ll post that as well. If you want to be tagged in these “extra” blogs so you don’t miss them, just post a comment letting me know and I will tag you. Otherwise, you can certainly look on your own as well.
Life’s Little Instruction Book says: Every so often, watch Sesame Street.
(Does anyone know when it's on? please post.)
Enjoy.
idk, but i was watching barney today with the kids.. and it was actually decently entertaining to watch something so wholesome and good natured.. i wish every show had such simple lessons to be learned.
