I've had my radio alarm set to Air1 since about November, when the radio dial somehow rolled down from 102.9 Christmas music to 102.5 Christian music... I have to be honest, it's been a great start to my days, putting me in a right frame of mind right off the bat, but it's also held drawbacks.
The biggest downfall to the soothingly familiar music waking me up is, I don't mind laying in bed for a longer time, listening to the music and morning show. And also drift in and out of sleep.
This was one of the problems I faced this morning, as I didn't actually get out of bed until I realized I was less than minutes away from class time, with at least five-minute drive ahead of me. The importance of the class period, since we didn't actually have a lecture, was to sign up for a good day for presentations. Jumping out of bed, I threw on the closest clothes I had to me, and raced out to my car. As always, Augsburg parking was ridiculous, with no spots available, so I nestled into a pay meter, dug into the change in my car, and threw in 30 cents. Yes, 30 cents. The first coin I put into the meter was a nickel, which I didn't realize until it was down. You don't get credit for nickels, by the way...
With 12 minutes on the meter, I began sprinting to class, nearly wiping out as I cut across the soft grass, which gave way in a spot to create a small divot. (I replaced the divot on the way home...) Breathless and into the classroom, I arrived just in time to choose between the first, second or third time slots... on the first presentation day. I might as well have stayed in bed.
With time before my next class, an exam, I headed home to shower, change, eat breakfast, and of course, check facebook. I received a nice message from a friend, which brightened my morning, so I of course took some time to respond... and then completely forgot about my exam.
Until 10 minutes to. Rushed for the second time this morning, I followed routine, and luckily found a spot on campus to park, rushing in just in time to show how much I had paid attention for this specific exam.
On a Tuesday, work follows class, so I usually pack a lunch. Of course, I had forgot to do this, in my hurry this morning. No worries, I thought to myself... I'll just go to Subway, and I began walking that direction. Twenty steps later, I realized I had never bothered to grab my wallet that morning.
I returned to the stash of change I keep in my car, and started counting. Driving home at this point was out of the question, because there was no way I would find a parking spot twice in one day. As I kept pouring dimes and nickels into my hand, I soon surpassed what it would cost to get a Sub.
But being the person I am, I soon recognized that I am way too proud to go into Subway and count nickels out to five dollars at the register while people stare at me and take guesses on when it was I last ate. It was this morning, ok? I'm just naturally skinny.
So without any remaining options, I took my hoard of coins to the vending machines, purchasing a bag of Famous Amos cookies, a bag of Fritos, and a Snickers bar. This is what I brought to work for lunch on this Tuesday, with baseball practice just around the corner.
Here I am now, finishing up my scrambled eggs and toast dinner (I learned I am too impatient to successfully make an omelet.) I have two papers due in the next 24 hours, neither of which have been started, but both will be finished by the end of tonight...
All of this piles up to the absolute conclusion I can't stop drawing in my mind today... Spring break can't come soon enough.
